A group of talented young dancers from Tuxford Primary Academy have competed in the final of a national dance competition after impressing judges in a regional heat. The dancers secured their place in the prestigious Great Big Dance Off after initially submitting a video illustrating their performance skills. The video put them through to the East Midlands’ round of the competition, held in Nottingham in February.

The pupils, of all ages, wowed regional judges to secure their place in the final, held in Oxford on June 19. The major event saw them compete against dance troupes from 33 other primary schools from across the country and they finished in 7th place - a fantastic achievement.

The Dance Club at Tuxford Primary Academy is run by teaching assistant Charlotte Williams and volunteers. Charlotte said: “It is the third time we have entered anything like this and the children did an amazing job. “We are very proud of them, as getting on stage can be nerve-racking.”

The Great Big Dance off was open to schools across England and Wales and is supported by Youth Dance England. It is the only national dance competition aimed solely at schools.

A spokesman said: “Our vision is to create an exciting competition, bringing together children of all ages and abilities where the emphasis is on having a good time.” Dancers
