What is the Sport Premium Grant?

In April 2013, the Government announced new funding of £150m for physical education (PE) and sport. This funding should be used to improve the quality and breadth of PE and sport provision.

This funding is ring-fenced to be used for sport-specific areas, to make an impact in PE and sport in schools.

Schools are free to determine how best to use this funding to improve the quality and breadth of PE and sport provision, including increasing participation in PE and sport so that all pupils develop healthy lifestyles and reach the performance levels they are capable of.

Funding received
Tuxford Primary Academy received £8950 this year to fund improvements to the provision of PE and sport. This is for the benefit of primary aged pupils, in the 2016 to 2017 academic year and helps to give them the opportunity to develop a healthy lifestyle.

How will we use the Sport Premium Grant at Tuxford Primary Academy in 2016-17?

We will use the funding in the following areas:

  • Training pupil play leaders
  • Playground equipment
  • Playground markings
  • Specialist sports coaches to plan, deliver and assess lessons and develop lunchtime sports activities
  • To maximise opportunities for pupils to participate and compete in sporting events
  • Sports equipment
  • Staff training
  • To provide a wider range of sport focused extra-curricular clubs

What impact did the Sport Premium Grant have for our children in 2015-16?

The impact of the funding in 2015-16 included:

  • Greater confidence for teachers and support staff in delivering lessons/clubs
  • Team teaching
  • Pupils recognise the importance of sports and healthy lifestyles
  • Opportunities for all year groups to compete in inter-schools competitions
  • Wider participation of children in games at lunchtimes and after school
